Counselling for Neurodivergent Adults

Being identified as neurodivergent in adulthood can be an overwhelming experience. Working with a counsellor who understands this experience because they have been through it too can help you begin to make sense of what late-identification means to you. When working with late-identified neurodivergent adults, we take a past/present/future approach:

Past

We use somatic processing approaches (such as Brainspotting, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems) to both help you make sense of your past experiences through the lens of neurodivergence and to heal from past traumas (including those that create internalized ableism) – the goal is to free you from the burdens of the past to open up space for your present and future.

Present

We explore how neurodivergence looks for you, including identity, masking/unmasking, sensory processing, communication styles, executive functioning, emotional and nervous system regulation, energy management, and more – the goal is to help you understand how your brain works so that you can create a healthy neurodivergent identity.

Future

We explore ways to better align your life with your unique neurotype, including setting boundaries, identifying accommodations, and more – the goal is creating a sustainable life that avoids the cycle of burnout.

Note: Oralie prioritizes working with adults (age 25+) who share similar life experiences to her own, including those who:

  • have been socialized female (while she is a cis woman, she warmly welcomes working with trans women and non-binary people)
  • are neurodivergent parents to neurodivergent kids
  • are late-identified as Autistic or AuDHD
  • live in British Columbia (due to licensing limitations)
